Yaeji is an experimental pop and electronic music producer, DJ, and vocalist with roots in Seoul, Tokyo, Atlanta, and New York City.
After breaking into the scene in 2017 with her debut EPs that featured singles including “Raingurl” and “Drink I’m Sippin On,” Yaeji has been featured on Charli xcx’s 2019 album, produced remixes for the likes of Dua Lipa and Robyn, collaborated with the beloved Seoul-based polymath OHHYUK, sold out two headlining worldwide tours, and launched her bespoke lifestyle website JI-MART.
In the video above, Yaeji gives the Splice community an exclusive tour of her inspiring multimedia studio. Join us as she walks through her compact but versatile music workstation, vocal recording setup, and the rare synths and hardware she’s collected over the years.
What’s perhaps most fascinating about her sun-drenched space is that it’s a creative hub, not just a music studio—whether she’s working on her newest album, shooting video content, creating merch, or even hand-sewing her looks for her shows, Yaeji can do it all from her Brooklyn HQ. It’s a limitless space that pushes the boundaries of a music studio and redefines what it means to be creative.
“I feel like at the root of how I make music, it’s all still so spontaneous,” Yaeji tells us. “It’s still, ‘How am I feeling today?’ I rarely come in with an idea or a melody I’m humming ahead of time. I’m just more familiar with everything—like, everything feels way smoother and faster once I have an idea.
“I don’t use Maschine anymore, but I have other plugins I like to go for drums. I’ve also just been sampling and chopping up drums more, which is why I use Splice. So, that’s a bigger difference—the ease and comfort and speed of the workflow. I’m very much about, ‘What is the fastest way I can express right now?’ Whatever leads me there, I prefer that.”
